Having a health issue can cause any Connecticut resident to feel frightened. An individual may feel a bit more calm after learning that a surgical procedure or other treatment could help address his or her condition. Unfortunately, this sense of calm may be short-lived after learning that more problems were created due to medical malpractice.

One woman in another state suffered such an outcome after needing an operation. A mass had reportedly formed on her adrenal gland, and as a result, she was supposed to have the mass and gland removed through a surgical procedure. Rather than removing the gland, however, the surgeon removed that woman’s healthy right kidney by mistake. The woman was not immediately made known of the error, and it was approximately one week after the surgery that she was told.

Now, the woman suffers from kidney disease, mental distress, pain and other issues due to the doctor’s error. She also had to undergo an additional surgery in order to have the adrenal gland properly removed. She has filed a legal claim against the doctor and the state’s surgical institute in hopes of obtaining undisclosed compensation for the negative outcomes.

While any type of medical malpractice can cause serious damage, having a healthy body part removed is an immensely grievous error. If Connecticut residents have suffered in this type of event, they undoubtedly know that hardships that follow. Physical, mental and financial difficulties can all present themselves, and negatively affected parties may want to seek compensation and justice though a lawsuit for the pain, distress and other struggles they have faced as a result.

Most people hope to avoiding having to go to the emergency room for any reason. Unfortunately, medical emergencies can happen to anyone at any time, and receiving immediate medical attention may be the best course of action. While the best case scenario would involve a patient obtaining the correct diagnosis and treatment, medical malpractice could lead to much more dire outcomes.

Connecticut residents may be interested in a recent study that took a look at the connection between emergency room errors and their causes. Apparently, 45 percent of those errors took place due to cognitive processing issues with the medical staff. This means that doctors or other staff members may have the right information relating to a patient, but they may not make the best choices when it comes to diagnosing and treating the patient.

Another 31 percent of mistakes took place due to verification issues relating to the information. Errors also occurred due to not having the right knowledge for the situation and not having gathered the right information, but those causes were more infrequent than processing issues. However, it was still unclear why the cognitive issues may take place so frequently.

Connecticut families may wait in emergency rooms for hours hoping to learn good news about their loved ones. Sadly, mistakes made in the ER could easily lead to devastating outcomes, and families may find themselves in need of information on their legal options. If mistakes made by medical staff members led to serious problems or death, the affected families may have reason to file medical malpractice claims against the parties considered responsible.

No one wants to lose a family member too soon. As a result, they may take them to the hospital when signs of a serious medical condition present themselves. While Connecticut residents may hold their breath as they wait for their loved one to get better, they may find themselves distraught to learn that medical malpractice contributed to their loved one’s demise instead.

It was recently reported that a family in another state filed a lawsuit against a hospital for such an outcome. Apparently, a 61-year-old woman had been taken to the hospital for treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, the family believes that the staff neglected the woman as she developed Stage 4 bedsores and also suffered injuries after falling from her bed.

Less than two weeks after the fall, the woman died. The family believe that the bedsores, injuries from the fall and hospital staff’s careless actions contributed to her premature demise. Legal representation for the hospital has denied the claims, and the hospital’s director of public affairs did not provide specific comment on the pending litigation.

Medical malpractice is a serious issue and, as this case shows, can cause considerable and even fatal harm to patients. If Connecticut residents have lost loved ones due to the negligent actions of hospital staff members, they may want to explore their available legal options. Filing a lawsuit may allow surviving loved ones to hold complicit parties accountable for their parts in the deaths of their loved ones, which may help them on their quests for closure.
